What is MatchMySport?

MatchMySport is designed to help you find Team members, Sports Partners and Players, for example if you'd like to find a like-minded person who, like yourself, enjoys a a game of tennis or squash. You can arrange between yourselves a location, date and time convenient for both of you. MatchMySport has an automated way of finding sports partners/players/team members with other benefits of the site including FREE Games, Applications and Sports videos and Articles.

How did the idea come up for MatchMySport?

The idea came to life when a friend who wanted to play Golf couldn’t find a Golfing buddy of a similar standard available to play in his local area. MatchMySport was created to help others find Sporting Partners and to meet like-minded people.

What are the advantages over your competitors?

We have a better and easier website over our competitors. Our website has FREE Ganes and Apps (Applications) which like Sudoku, Live Soccer scores, Twitter integration and Ticketmaster tickets that are available for purchase. We have Forums, Blogs, Articles on Sport and a Group feature that allows you to contact your team mates for a game of 5-a-side football and automates the process of finding whos attending. The Group features also allows you to have a Group web page with information about your team or your club.

What countries is this service available to?

Our website caters for members in the UK and US, but in the future additional countries can be added.

Events/Finding a sports partners/player/team mate  – What's the process?

You can organize in-person meet ups with your Sports Partners using the Events feature (we advise that you follow our safety tips). You register with our site which is a FREE service, fill in your personal details to register and once logged in, add a Event which is just details of your Sports event with a Map of the location, a time and date and simple description. You then get RSVPs from members who can reply to your Sports Events, on whether they would like to attend the event.  You can select which member you want to accept their invitation.

Then either Page the potential sports partner (www.paginglist.com) without giving out your mobile number or email the sports partner to arrange a meeting in a public place such as a Leisure Centre.

What sort of sports does MatchMySport cover?

MatchMySport covers a huge spectrum of sports such as Football, Cricket, Rugby, Athletics, Tennis, Basketball, Cycling, Swimming, Snooker, Sailing., as wel as many others.

How long have you been established?

The site was established in October 2007 and our new website was launched in January 2009.

How many members do you have?

We have around 200 members currently, but are working to advertise the website to spread the membership. Our members could include personal trainers, clubs, team players like 5-a-side football teams, sports partners and players.

What about disclosing my private personal details?

We don't release private details on the website, this is held securely in a database. Members can use an personal email inbox on Matchmysport with their own email address to contact other members to find a sports partner.

Who is the website open to?

The website is open to all members above the age of 18, with varying levels of sporting ability in the UK and USA.

Whos the managing director?

Andy Price is the managing director and there are 4 other members of the team who all have an interest in Sport.

What experience of sport do you have?

We all have an interest in Sport and watch Sport. Our aim is to encourage people into Sport to reduce obesity levels in the UK and US, improve people's sporting ability and have fun.

What about safety tips?

We publish a safety tips page on the website, so that our members can be safe when meeting up with other members. We advise on the first meeting, that you arrange to meet in a public place, have a mobile with plenty of credit on it and tell a friend to contact you to check everything is alright and inform them before hand of where, who and when you are meeting a potential sports partner.

How wil you reduce obesity levels in the UK?

Our aim is to encourage people of all ages into sport. We recognise that some people don't have a team mate or sports partner to play sport with, the aim of our site is to make this process easier and fun. By learning about sport and contacting other members who have interest in sport, we can encourage more people into sport and health and fitness.

What are the health benefits of sport?

The health benefits of sport include positive effects on mind and body – including better motivation, more energy, increased well being, better mood/self esteeem and improved body image. There are lower risks to the body such as less risk of heart disease/high blood presure, less risk of being overweight or obesity/high cholesteral and diabetes. Other factors include decreases in stress, anxiety and depression as well as many other benefits.

What do you see the future of the site?

We hope to see more content in the site from members, and more participation in Blogs and Forums.

Once we have attracted more members to the website, more content will be available and more people will be attracted to sport and getting fit. We are always looking to improve the experience of our website members.

What are your backgrounds in business?

MatchMySport's team members have careers in IT, Property and Construction and Graphic Design.

Our team has interest in Sport and improving the website to attract more members to the website.

Do you offer help and contact info?

We offer an email address where members can contact us with feedback and suggestions to the website.

We are listed on Page 1 for the keyword “sports partner” and on Page 1 for the keyword “sports partners”.

What sort of advertising have you done?

We have concentrated our efforts on getting near the top of Google and have released a press release to spread the word of our website and the features that our website offers.

How about associations with others?

We would like to in the future have associations with Sport England, London 2012 and certain Sports stars. We are pursuing these associations and hope to have these associations within the next couple of months.

How do you expect to make some money from the site?

We expect to make our revenue from advertising on the website. As the website has adverts from leading sports retailers. We also provide the ability to buy gifts on the website. Gifts are small graphics which can be purchased and given to other members of MatchMySport and appear on a members comment wall, Latest Activity feed, and in their own gifts box on the profile page. We also have Games available that users can play, some are free and others we charge a small fee.
